Michelle Govender: General Manager of The One Billion
Having come from a developing country, Michelle Govender is familiar with issues of poverty in all of its manifestations, lack of infrastructure and need.
Michelle has worked for and with NGOs in the past fighting for access to basic human rights as well as working towards alleviating some of the suffering experienced by many.
One of her key achievements was successfully defending the rights of HIV+ prisoners to access ARVs in South Africa at a time when the government was refusing to do so.
She believes in the adage: Love all, Serve all – that a life of service to humanity is what allows us to find meaning in our own lives. Michelle has a background in human rights law with degrees in Law from the University of Natal (Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Laws, Master of Laws) and University of Toronto (Master of Laws). She is currently completing a PhD in Law at the Auckland University of Technology.
