The One Billion Winter Distribution – Europe
At the end of December 2020, two tonnes of clothing and computer equipment were loaded into trucks to be distributed to refugee, immigrant, undocumented or homeless families across Europe.
The items arrived just in time for winter, a typically harsh period for Europe’s most vulnerable people. With this project, approximately 6,700 people received new socks, underwear and tops to keep them warm. The computers were distributed to training and language programs designed to help refugees settle into their new lives around Europe.
The One Billion partnered with Human Aid Now, an organisation based in Amsterdam to coordinate and distribute the items. Donations went to:
- Carabic, an organization helping Arab and Caribbean women integrate into Dutch society and providing emergency food support.
- Oportunidades na Holanda, an organisation that offers food aid, medical assistance, tutoring for children, sports and culture activities to about 600 undocumented families from mainly the Brazilian and Filipino communities.
- The All Saints African Church parish
- Approximately 50 homeless street cleaners in Amsterdam.
